Shakespeare once wrote:
„The strawberry grows underneath the nettle,
And wholesome berries thrive and ripen best
Neighbored by fruit of baser quality;“
Its supposed to be a part of a profound metaphor for the human condition, describing how the meaningful and virtuous qualities of some random dude were given the room to thrive due to being obscured by his shitty qualities.
Not that I particularly care: this post is not about self-improvement or virtue, its about strawberries.
So what I’m getting from this passage is simply: Strawberries are elite, and all the other fruits SUCK, Shakespeare said so! (Am I wrong?!)
Now that we’ve used righteous reasoning to establish the fact that strawberries are superior to other fruit, it is safe to assume that one would want to consume as much as possible of said fruit. So let me ask you this: Have you ever bought a pack of strawberries, eaten them all in one sitting and thought to yourself, I am indeed content with this amount of fruit!
No? Me, neither.
The conclusion: One. Pack. Of. Berries. Simply. Ain´t. Enough.
If you want to tell me that one measly pack strawberries satisfies your cravings, I don’t know what to tell you; I wish you the best in life, but I do not understand you.
For all my fellow berry connoisseurs and/or chronic overeaters I offer the perfect solution to this crippling problem. If you’ve ever been near the north of Germany, you’ve probably heard of Karls Erdbeerhof; it is a brand that it mostly known for its little pop up shops.
They look a litte something like this
They seem to appear of out nowhere once spring blossoms and from then on you can buy oh so tasty but oh so expensive strawberries from moody, underpaid teens. Not that this experience is not wholesome in and of itself, but Karls Erdbeerhof actually offers a lesser known service through which your strawberry consumption may potentially increase by over 50%. (please do not ask me for a source on this one, I am but a simple English student who could never even grasp the concept of a triangle let alone PERCENTAL CALCULATION)
The service I’m talking about consists of picking your own strawberries !
I know it might sound tedious at first, but trust me on this one. Its the perfect opportunity to indulge in exorbitante amounts of strawberries for significantly less money than you’d spend if you’d just bought them.
Karls Erdbeerhof has three different locations around Rostock that you can visit. From there, you just pick a basket and away you go. In about one hour, I was able to pick around 3 kilograms of strawberries, which turned out to be an obscene amount for just one person. In the past three days I have eaten strawberries for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and how much was paid for this luxury? 10 bucks and a good amount of crippling pain from the manual labor – absolute bargain!
If you have the time, check it out! The fields will close soon, so you’d better start picking now!
