On May, 25th the Rostocker Artnight took place in the Old Town (by klicking on the link you find recent acitvities and events in the Old Town) where you could walk along the small cobblestoned streets and also into the Nikolai-and Petrichurch to look at new and old art from various local artists. The blue artnight ballons along the shops and streets guided us through the Old Town to spot every attraction.
It was a beautiful sunny Friday evening, when my boyfriend and I were strolling through the Old Town and discovered new alleys, small shops and most of all: wonderful paintings and wonderful photography by different artists. The artists exhibited their work in the shops, restaurants, galleries and the churches, accompanied by music etc. and supported by many visitors, classical music and delicious snacks and drinks. Already since 2000 the Old Town opens their doors to host the artists for free! It is not only about art but it is a street festival which offers various attractions and activities as well as street food and drinks.
My boyfriend and I started in the Grubenstraße and went all the way towards the Nikolaichurch. We listened to live music in the Likörfabrik, watched women belly dancing, had an insight into various shops like Waterstradt and Lieblingsblume where artists exhibited their work. We stopped by Törtcheneck, had the best waffles in town and tried a selfmade strawberry punchbowl, which was just amazing.
We went up the way towards the Nikolaichurch and watched a young man, showing and explaining his self made wooden furniture to his audience. The Nikolaichurch hosted several artists who showed their photographs, and paintings of various kinds and materials: oil paintings, wool paintings, abstract paintings, urban paintings, portrait paintings. I even met an old friend of mine, who is also a student at Rostock University! How awesome is that? You will not only get to know new, local artists from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern but you will meet also students and colleagues and have a friendly chat with the hosts.
The next artnight will probably be in May 2019. Here you can check their website to be up-to-date.
Stay tuned and enjoy the visit!
